5 Tips On What To Do During A Dengue Outbreak

Dengue is a viral disease that is commonly transmitted by a biting mosquito-day; these mosquitoes live closely with people and they usually thrive in tiny amounts of stagnant water. When fully grown, they lay eggs in the water and the incubation period usually last from 4-10 days. When a person is afflicted with the dengue virus, they usually experience high fever for several days accompanied with a severe headache, muscle, joint, and eye pains. That's why people go out of their way to prevent dengue outbreaks from happening in their vicinity.

If you did not know what to do to prevent a dengue outbreak, then here are some tips to help you out:

# 1. Removing Water from Buckets and Pails

First thing to do is eliminate the places where they thrive in. If you have empty buckets and pails scatter around your house, then it's much better to turn them over so that they could not collect excess water and provide a place for mosquitoes to live in. If, in any case, you can not throw the water away from the pails and buckets, then make sure to put a lid on top of it and keep it tightly sealed.

# 2 Taking Care of Your Potted Plants

If you have empty flower pots laying around your house, then it's better to make sure they are turned over to avoid collecting excess water (like in # 1). And if you water your plant regularly, then make sure to not over-water them and cause excess water to build up on top of the soil, even if the soil will absorb it in a few days, it's better to be safe than sorry when having possible breeding grounds for mosquitoes around your house.

# 3 Using Mosquito Repellent on a Regular Basis

After clearing out possible breeding grounds for mosquitoes, it's time to keep them away from your home. Use mosquito repellent around the exposed areas of your house, apply it during the day and even at night. Commonly used mosquito repellents are chemically based, that's why use caution when using them because they may cause skin irritation and other complications; organic mosquito repellents are available in markets but they are quite pricey, that's why people opt for chemically based.

# 4. Preventing Dengue Coming from Inside Your House

Sometimes there exists mosquitoes that are determined to invade your home; they use the open entrances or holes in your house to gain access. Always remember to close doors and windows around the house and if you tend to leave your windows open, try installing a screen on the outer part to prevent them from coming inside. But if you already have screens installed, make sure they do not have holes, and if they do have holes, try to cover up the holes to not let any mosquitoes inside.

# 5. Remaining Eliminating Mosquitoes

Now, to eliminate the lingering mosquitoes around your home. The most commonly used way to eliminate them is by installing electric mosquito zappers around the house. These zappers use ultraviolet light to attract mosquitoes and the mosquito is when they get close enough lethally electrocuted. Using this machine is time efficient and easy to use; you just have to plug it in, and voila! You do not even lift a finger when eliminating mosquitoes.

Preventing mosquito outbreaks in your vicinity can not only help you but also the people around you. By reducing the amount of breeding areas, they have, they eventually end up dying by themselves or they look for new breeding spots. Always remember that preventing them from multiplying is keeping you and the people around you safe.
